Follow @botanigals on Instagram and Facebook to learn more about the native plants that can be found around Central Ontario and more specifically to Lake of Bays and Algonquin Highlands.  Whether it be plant ID, plant medicine, plant lore, or methodology, @botanigals posts share safe and traditional methods using native plant species as food and medicine.  There are neat ideas for common plant species that are easily found in any kitchen too!

Postings also follow Botanigal’s adventures with wildlife and her family’s life in the wild.

Botanigal has blended her post-secondary education and her passion for botany, along with a lifetime of outdoor exploration, into a career as an ecological horticulturist/ landscape consultant, an ecological inventory consultant,  and an ethnobotanist (plant food, medicine, and utility) by trade.

She operates two businesses, produces wild plant medicines and foods, and moonlights as a natural heritage interpreter amidst the wilds of Muskoka and Haliburton.

Botanigal owns and operates a native plant nursery and ecological landscaping business BarK Ecologic Gardens and Nursery with an educational core, and has been planting seeds of diversity about her territory, teaching volunteers about native plants, and taking ecological inventory of her surroundings for over 15 years.

Botanigal also runs a retail boutique with her daughters.  Visit botanigals online or visit the local outlets in Haliburton and Muskoka that are carrying her products.

botanigals, where hope sprouts eternal, is a family venture where Botanigal’s little sprouts can blossom into their own plant-based careers.  botanigals carries all things botanical from products from our forest gardens, botanically themed works by our local artisans, and even speciality items from afar.  Take a look at our boutique page on this site.

Visit the contact page to book a Botanigal adventure or a Botanigal visit to your site.

Ethnobotanical and Ecology walks are a great way to entertain a group, or just help you and your family learn more about the plants that  surround you in your outdoor space, and what uses and other magic they may hold!

If you can’t make it out to the area for a real educational Botanigal hike or workshop event, please feel free to enjoy exploring these notes and images.

Our daughters and our pals love this video!

I particularly like the contextual spin on ecosystem perspectives, though this opening screen makes Chris Martin look a bit like the corpses in Macleans magazine 'Franklin Expedition' issue.
